Chief of the Boat .. on the 1MC, Dive !! Dive !!

Usually announced by 1st Officer on board a submarine when they're about to execute a dive. The Helmsman then shift his steer forward after the Chief opened up the vents allowing sea water flood the bulk so the submarine dives.

Unlike Diesel-Electric submarines, nuclear powered steel sharks could dive within days or even weeks under water -well unless the ship needs to breathe for its crew-. While Diesel-Electric submarines could only dive and run underwater for certain period until she needs to surface for batteries charging. And with the new air conditioning system, the crew in nuclear sharks could feel relieved within, there were no air conditioning systems available during WW II and early 60's.

Well okay, the point is modern submarines powered by nuclear replacing the older Diesel-Electrics. Right now new developed submarines are using fiber optic technology for computational purposes ... *whistle* optic goes to underwater vehicle :D.

All armed forces branches are still expose their own ego.

Army is the best .. the navy are fags, Marines is the top the other stands small, etc. As a matter of fact all branches no matter what their duties are .. supporting each other. No green berets could break through the enemy defense line if they aren't supported by Air Force, no Marines could reach beacheads if they aren't supported by naval artillery fire, etc. So ... why do they think they're better than others ?

I don't stand on the Navy side, but I think Navy compared to other branches is the only branch which has a high appreciation on humanity -they sank battleships .. BUT they have a code of ethics to rescue enemy sailors overboard after their battleships were scored-. Not only during naval warfare, in the normal condition they also do social duties like when Tsunami swept most of NAD late last year they sent LST's to support the disaster recovery effort for example.

Oh there's another thing related to this well-mannered branch.

Have you ever seen Crimson Tide played by Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington ?

It's a fictive story however but somehow Tom Clancy had another consideration. It's not only exposing the tension between 2 high level officers on board a SSBN which carried nuclear ballistic missiles but the story is -if I am to say about this movie- related to breaking down racism down.

Captain Ramsey (Gene Hackman) played a role as a flamboyant submarine CO who sailed many times and had the field experiences. Commander Hunter (Denzel Washington) is a new assigned XO whose lack of field experiences but expert in theory. Their mission was to launch nuclear missile over rebel forces. Captain Ramsey takes the boat, Hunter examines the theoritical aspects. The tension between two minds occured when there was a communication disorder -the radio was damaged during a chase with the Akula- whereas before the transmission they had an order to launch the missiles. Captain Ramsey insist they should launch but Hunter decided to confirm the broken message before they launch the missiles, because nuclear is a mass of destruction weapon ... one false move could cause chain reaction to other things.

The main idea from this movie is that before taking appropriate actions on something, think wisely before you done.

"You understand with that policy, sailor ?"

"Aye, sir!"
