My god .. what have we done ?!
60 years ago ... -well not exactly 60 years ago since I am late writing this post it should be yesterday or even a week ago-
3 Allied bombers ... Enola Gay, Greatest Artist, (I forget the last one)
Enola Gay carried a 'special package' to be delivered onto Hiroshima, the package name was "Little Boy" the bombers crew weren't briefed on what they were carrying. They were only told that it was 'something that can bring Japan on its knee'.
The bombardier of Enola Gay however planned to arm the bomb in midair whereas the order was to arm on the ground prior to take-off. Since few days ago there were a B29 crash landed on the same airbase -considering the risk of immediate explosion- he had taken the otherwise.
On the Japan side ...
Life was running normally for most people in Japan, children went to school, men went to work at the office, even some jobs were replaced by women because most men were sent out to war. The same day the bombers took off, they were preparing for their new day ... before they realised the were about to experience the horrible tragedy they won't forget in their life.
Japan air defense systems were mostly annihilated by Allied forces. Aircrafts were either destroyed on the ground or used as Kamikaze attacks. AAA's were unable to reach the high altitude flying bombers. Thus, leaving them as sitting ducks ... the Allied waltz through Japan with ease, no significant resistance.
Now back to the bombers ...
Col. Paul Tippets as the bomber commander together as a pilot in command took his guys over 31,000 feet followed by the 2 others ... the bomb was armed and set to explode at 1,800 feet. After they passed through Hiroshima, the bombardier aimed with his bombsight and set the "Little Boy" free .. and so it went down onto Hiroshima, Tippets organized his crew to wear the polaroid google so they couldn't get affected by the bright caused by the explosion.
And then it exploded ... *BOOOM*, causing a giant mushroom explosion which rose 15,000 feet approximately.
Prior to the explosion, Greatest Artist captured the moments that turned the war. about 70,000 - 130,000 immediate death to the Japanese ... one of the bomber crew mumbled "my god ... what have we done ?!"
The bombers returned to base in piece .. not to the infrastructure of Hiroshima. After the explosion, people rushed to water sources. Obvious, who could stand the heat of thousands degree Celcius ... ?? people went to the river, they didn't care there were hundreds of casualties went into the river trying to cool his body down so the water turned red. Many people cried loud -shocked because usually things were normal but not that day- or trying to find their mates which were either died or lost or disintegrated.
Nagasaki was not different from Hiroshima, dropped from #77 piloted by Major Charles Sweeney. This one was "Fat Man" who played the role ... as the name implies, this powerful bomb smashed Nagasaki with its plutonium-implosion type. It was on 9th August 1945 while Hiroshima was on 6th.
On 15th August 1945, in Gulf of Tokyo on board of USS Missouri -The American biggest Battleship with code name BB-63 - The Allied forces supreme commander Gen. Doug MacArthur received and signed the Japanese surrender .. the war's over since then.
As for the South East Asia ... (To be continued ...)
