PSF Pre-Departure Training

Bismillah,

Well ... after being absent for so long, finally I manage to write my own opinions in this blog once again, hehehehe. It doesn't mean I'm such an ignorant but I've been so busy recently so I couldn't write anything. There are a lot of things I have in mind to write actually though ...

Okay, starting from 23rd of October until 31st December I'm having an English course --I would say it as intensive-- for pre-departure training. Alhamdulillah, I'm selected as one of the candidates for PSF scholarship; a scholarship sponsored by DIKTI (DI-rektorat pendidi-K-an TI-nggi). There are 21 of us, 10 from ITB with 3 different center of excellences, the rest of us are from STT Telkom. Surprisingly, I met my old friends some of whom I met during my undergraduate graduation day. The thing that also shocked me is the fact that Mr. Dharu Arseno, MT from STT Telkom is a friend of my former thesis adviser and my labmate Mr. Indarzah Masbatin Putra, ST (he's taking his master degree now). 3 of them were EL-ITB class of '89 --boy, I was in elementary school that year :D--.

DIKTI gave us the opportunity to choose 2 schools we are going to take for our doctoral degree. Some of my buddies are planning to go to Netherlands, German, UK, and Spain. Me myself choose to continue study in USA, either Stanford or SDSU. I've made contact with professors there who would like to be my adviser --my research would be what I have mentioned in early posting(s)--. Hopefully I would get one of them :)

Insya Allah, if things are doing well and we earn at least 600 for paper based or 100 for internet based TOEFL score we'll be going to our designated schools in March next year; each of us would have different major with different campus life. But we all bound by friendship we established ever since the first time we met in pre-departure training. So no matter how far we are going to be, no matter how hard the topics of our dissertation are we're still as one union.

Oh I forgot ... the pre-departure training is held in UPI --formerly known as IKIP Bandung--. the lecturers are superb, they gave us the materials which we must learn it thoroughly. At the end of teaching session some of us have tutorials from mentors, it is all about discussion on whatever topics the mentors gave us. All of our mentors are English Dept. students in their final year of study. So it is obvious that their language skill is better than most of us. There is one lecturer that attracted me most; Mrs. Isti Siti Saleha, S.Pd, M.A. She lectures listening comprehension. I found out her speaking ability i.e. fluency in English is extraordinary excellent with a broad knowledge on English idioms. As an addition, she is good looking :P~ --Alas, she has married, smokey !!-- oh well ... at least your advise on listening for TOEFL test really works :). And also Miss Mamay, S.Pd --I don't know her real name but that's what everybody calls her-- who always busy for coordinating this training, I hope what you had done for this training really pays. There are numbers of staffs and lecturers involved in this training who I cannot mention one-by-one but you all give us light in the darkness to guide us for a better English proficiency. I owe you all a lot ...

As for my tutorial buddies like Mrs. Ratna Sari Dewi, M.T., Mr. Dody Hartanto, M.T., --both of them were Industrial Engineering class of '98-- and Miss Dade Nurjannah, M.Eng. It is a pleasure to be a friend of yours ... hey if we all going to our designated school don't forget to share your pictures or photos ;)

Btw ... today we just had our table manner in Santika Hotel, yeah finally I know how to behave on formal feasts. The participants were from UPI students and of course ... us as candidates. It is important to know table manner in case someday we are invited by VIP's or VVIP's to join formal conferences, meetings, etc. hehehe.

Enclosing to this posting may Allah gives what is best for us in the future ... who knows someday my buddies in PSF become ministers, top executives, or even presidents :D Amin ya Rabbal Alamin.
